FAQs

  • No need to do any major preparation. Don’t do a grueling workout less than 24 hours before your test and you should be ok. You just don’t want your muscles to tire out before you reach your maximum cardio level.

Day of the test just don’t consume any calories, take caffeine, or smoke within 4 hours of your test time. Water is ok.

  • A typical test is about 8-15 minutes of gradually increasing intensity to steadily increase your heart rate and breathing to its maximum. You can choose to run, bike, row, swim, or any other physical activity.

You’ll workout while wearing a specialized, lightweight mask that looks like a CPAP machine and captures all the carbon dioxide you exhale.

  • Most common is to test on a treadmill, bike, or rower, but the cool thing about our portable analyzer is that you can use it in pretty much any kind of workout you want!

  • The definition of VO2 Max is the volume (V) of oxygen (O2) your body can consume. The higher the number the better your heart and lungs can work or the “bigger your aerobic engine.”

The higher your max, the more capable your body is to handle physical activity. That activity includes exercise, recovery, handling stress, recovering from illness, and metabolizing food.

VO2 Max is the most correlated metric we have to longevity and quality of life. Higher scores can add years of quality lifespan.
